Massage Therapy FAQ
- What is massage therapy?
Massage therapy is a recognized health care option that contributes to general health and wellness. It works with the body’s soft tissue to help relieve pain and stiffness associated with stress, tension, injury and other conditions. It brings many benefits to muscles and other body connective tissues.
- What should I expect at my first appointment?
It is a good idea to arrive about 10 to 15 minutes before the appointment time to fill out the health history forms. Drink plenty of water and avoid smoking and heavy meals for an hour prior to your massage. After you have finished filling out your health history you will be taken to a treatment room to discuss the form and your preferences for the session.
At this time I will leave the room to allow you to disrobe to your comfort level. After disrobing you will lay face down on the massage table and cover yourself with the linens provided and wait for the therapist to knock on the door.
You’ll be under linens on a heated massage table throughout the treatment and only the limb being worked on will be uncovered. Feel free at any time during the session to let me know if the pressure is too much or too little, if you are too hot or cold, or about anything else that is effecting your ability to relax.
At the end of the massage I will let you know that your treatment is complete and will leave the room for you to dress. Take your time. When you are ready, open the door and I will then walk you back to the front so we can discuss a treatment plan and you can ask me any questions at this time.
- Will I be completely covered during the session?
Only areas that are being worked on will be exposed during the session. You will be properly draped at all times to keep you warm and comfortable. If you are uncomfortable at any time let the therapist know.
- Do I need to completely undress?
You only need to undress to your comfort level. Some clients prefer to completely undress and others prefer to keep on their undergarments. This is completely up to you. Your comfort and ability to relax is a top priority Some people like to take off all their clothing, while others leave on their undergarments or other articles of clothing. It’s really up to you. If you choose to be fully clothed, please wear loose fitting clothing (like sweatpants and a t-shirt) so that your body will not be restricted during your treatment. You will undress and dress in the privacy of your massage rooms and will be covered by a blanket and sheet during your massage session.
- How often should I get a massage?
One massage a month is the common answer to this question but it really depends on your individual needs. If you are just coming in to relax once a month is sufficient. If you are getting your massage to help with an injury or chronic pain you could come in once a week. In my option bi-monthly massages offer optimal therapeutic relief. It just depends on how you are feeling.
- What does a massage therapy license mean?
A license means that I have met the requirements set by the states of California and Nebraska and paid a fee to legally practice massage in those states. It means I have completed 1000 hours of training at an accredited school and that I will take 22 more hours of education at minimum every two years to keep current.
- What is included in my session time?
A session includes time to dress and undress, communicate with me what you need to customize your massage, and the massage itself.
- Will I be sore after my massage?
It is normal to feel some muscle soreness after a massage. As massage helps release lactic acid that has been stored in tight muscles, it can create a temporary soreness.

- How does Kinesio tape work?
K tape helps to alleviate discomfort and facilitate lymph drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. It helps to increase the space between the skin and muscles allowing for decreased inflammation, reduced pressure and increased blood flow and lymph draining from the area. Kinesio Tape fibers are designed to stretch longitudinally up to 40 to 60% of it resting length. (A 10 inch strip of Kinesio Tex Tape will stretch to 14 to 16 inches in total length). This is approximately the stretch capability of normal skin in areas such as the knee, low back and cervical region.
- What is the Kinesio Taping Method?
The Kinesio Taping Method is a rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to help the body in it’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion.
